The most magical night of my life.
I wanted to share our proposal story here on Top Knotted, just in case anyone was interested in hearing about how it happened (and because it is my favorite life story to date!). Peter and I had made plans earlier in the week to go see the Christmas lights at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens – each year they put on a stunning display of lights throughout the entire park, including gorgeous decorations in the mansion on the grounds as well. We went with our great friends Zach and Chelsea (Peter works with Zach and Chelsea is one of my favorite photographers and friends in Nashville) for a fun double-date night. Chelsea had her camera and was snapping photos of the lights as we walked around the grounds and we were all just enjoying the lights and each others’ company. It was bitter cold, so we stepped inside the mansion to view the art displays and decorations. I was frozen to the bone, so as soon as we walked back outside I started heading back towards the cars. But I turned around and everyone was walking the other way! I jogged to catch up and we stopped on the gorgeous mansion balcony. Peter asked me to come over to the ledge by the railing, and well, I’ll let the photos tell the rest…
Peter handed me a headphone and began to play one of our favorite love songs, Bad as You by local Nashville artist Quinton Parker.
Then he asked me to dance. Also, I vaguely remember noticing that Chelsea and Zach were no longer close by, but I heard the small clicks from her camera. I started to wonder, and my heart was pounding.
Once the song ended, Peter got down on one knee and said the kindest words that made me the happiest person. I remember yelling yes about 15 times
I had to sit down because I was in such shock – And the sweetheart I’m marrying sat right there with me.
Once I finally regained my composure (it took a solid while) and managed to actually look away from the perfect vintage engagement ring that had suddenly appeared on my finger, we made our way back to the cars and said goodbye to Zach and Chelsea. The drive home allowed some of what had just happened to sink in. We pulled into the driveway and walked into the house, only to find it full of our dearest friends there to celebrate with us. There were balloons, streamers, and champagne – it was simply perfect. And our sneaky friends Zach and Chelsea were there too! I couldn’t have been more surprised or joyful through the entire evening.
The proposal, the ring, and the person I am to marry are simply perfect to me. My heart is so full and I’m so grateful that I get to share this story with you all. I want to be sure to say thank you to everyone for the love and support you have shown us both, even just by reading this and sharing a special part of our story with us. Love to all and cheers to 2016 and all it has in store!
A special thank you to my dear friend Chelsea of Chelsea Rochelle Photography for capturing this special moment so wonderfully. If you all are looking for a photographer for family, wedding, engagement, or proposal sessions, she’s your girl!
